Nice to meet you! I am Magdalena, a Zurich based Head of UX Design with 12+ years of extensive experience in multinational environments managing the whole design process of digital products and cross-functional teams.
My expertise lies in combining empathy, creative instinct, and business savviness to champion entrepreneurial approach to strategic transformation within growing organisations.
Currently, I lead and further expand User Experience department at Notation Creative Consulting. Day by day I empower and mentor team members, fostering a collaborative, productive, and positive environment within a growing company. I apply, coach and drive Design Operations and Agile Project Management to monitor and balance quality, cost, and schedule in product development. Finally, I own team’s priorities, planning and execution, connecting them to larger business and products strategies.
Previously, I was leading the design of multiple Oracle NetSuite initiatives from large iterative feature projects to optimisations working closely with Product Management and Engineering. From research, prototyping and testing to evaluating product feasibility and establishing design strategy, I was producing solutions resulting in improved functionality and user experience. I also contributed to setting and conveying a compelling long-term design strategy and mission.
Before that, I was working between Barcelona and Zürich leading the design of Business Intelligence and Internet of Things applications for Zurich Insurance Group. We were providing customers with solutions resulting in improved cost transparency, claims handling, projects life-cycle visibility and risk estimation. I drove the product design process by performing Design Thinking workshops, where I identified user personas, mapped user journey and if needed results of a DREAM analysis. Upon gathered user stories and research, I created wireframes and interactive prototypes. Throughout the project I provided support to the developers and kept track on the backlog and user testing. In order to improve the development process, I provided mentoring sessions regarding design and usability. I also created Zurich and Swiss Way of Visualisation guidelines to promote and ensure cohesive look and feel of Zurich applications and reports.
Before joining Zurich Insurance, I have been working at Cotecna Inspections, where I designed applications that are being used to perform inspections, estimate risk and deliver reporting insights. Design process have always been adjusted to the chosen technology, in this case Angular, Bootstrap and Qlik. Thanks to my front - end background, I was able to perform “style checks” and gather needed changes into documentation for developers. Apart from that, I had a great opportunity to redesign the company’s website and change its image during Design Sprint session in Geneva. While maintaining focus on business goals I never lost sight of creating a maximized user-centered experience.
UX as an enabler of digital transformation
During the digital transformation process, companies are confronted with numerous questions: How can the transition to the digital world be accomplished? What does it take to stay market relevant? How do relationships with your customers change? And where do you start in the transformation of your own company? Contrary to general opinion, the focus of digital transformation is not on technologies, but on people – i.e., customers, users, employees and partners. The user experience, which consistently puts people in the forefront, is therefore considered a central aspect of digitalization. Ultimately, it is your key to a successful transition to the digital world.
User centered design in agile development
Agile and UX share the goal of producing high-quality
software even though they approach this goal from different
perspectives. Fundamentally, both approaches are human-
centered and cyclical. UCD practices can improve Agile by providing systematic
way to examine end-user needs. On the other hand, Agile
can improve UCD by providing more frequent iterations,
which leads to more frequent usability evaluations. The early
feedback can then be incorporated into the product more
quickly and common goal of ensuring that the solution has good user experience.
